About this pack

At the Giga Texas opening in April 2022, Tesla delivered the first Model Y with its own 4680 cells, a single-piece front casting, and a structural battery pack whose top forms the cabin floor.

An academic package analysis describes 828 cylindrical 4680 cells in four modules of 207, at about 83.6 Wh per cell, for 69 kWh gross. Teslarati reported 68 kWh at launch.

Performance

Charging, advantages and tradeoffs

Peak DC charging

Unknown

No verified charging curve for this pack is in the database yet. Curves vary with temperature, state of charge and software, so we only publish curves backed by repeatable measurements.

Advantages

  • The structural design removes the separate cabin floor, integrating the pack into the body. [1]

Tradeoffs

  • Lower capacity than the 2170-based Long Range pack sold alongside it. [3]

Identification

How to tell if your car has it

  • Austin-built Model Y AWD (sold as Standard Range AWD in some periods). Giga Texas also built Model Y with 2170 cells, so check the configuration or pack label.
  • The part number on the high-voltage battery label and Tesla service records are definitive. A VIN alone does not encode the cell supplier or pack code.

History
