About this pack

In February 2026, Tesla's European configurator reportedly switched the Model Y Premium Long Range RWD from the LG 5M to an in-house 4680 pack coded 8L. The cells come from Giga Texas and the pack is assembled at Giga Berlin. Long Range AWD and Performance cars were reported unchanged.

Electrek reported about 79 kWh gross and 74 kWh usable, below the 5M it replaced. Owner and press reports describe lower range and slower DC charging than the LG pack.

Charging, advantages and tradeoffs

Peak DC charging

Unknown

No verified charging curve for this pack is in the database yet. Curves vary with temperature, state of charge and software, so we only publish curves backed by repeatable measurements.

Advantages

  • Brings cell production in-house, reducing reliance on external cell suppliers. [1]

Tradeoffs

  • Reported lower capacity, range and DC charging speed than the LG 5M it replaced. [1][2]

Identification

How to tell if your car has it

  • Reported for Berlin-built Model Y Premium Long Range RWD from February 2026. Check the battery code on the registration document or COC.
  • The part number on the high-voltage battery label and Tesla service records are definitive. A VIN alone does not encode the cell supplier or pack code.
