About this pack

From late 2020, Fremont's Long Range and Performance Model 3 moved to Panasonic's 2170L cells. The layout stayed at 4,416 cells (96s46p), but capacity rose to about 82 kWh. The Akkuwiki lists 82.1 kWh, and EV Database lists 82 kWh nominal with 76 kWh usable.

Fremont-built Model Y Long Range packs are described as Panasonic units of about 82 kWh, consistent with the 3L. The exact pack code for Model Y has not been verified here.

Peak DC charging

Unknown

No verified charging curve for this pack is in the database yet. Curves vary with temperature, state of charge and software, so we only publish curves backed by repeatable measurements.

Advantages

  • About 4 kWh more than the original Panasonic Long Range pack, with no change to cell count. [1][2]

Tradeoffs

None documented with a source yet.

Identification

How to tell if your car has it

  • US-built Long Range Model 3 delivered after roughly April 2021 most likely carry this pack, according to owner reports. Cars built around the switchover could have either pack.
  • The pack part number on the label confirms the pack definitively.
  • The part number on the high-voltage battery label and Tesla service records are definitive. A VIN alone does not encode the cell supplier or pack code.
